V-Cutters - for perfect cigar cutting

Whether you are new to cigars or a seasoned expert, preparing cigars is part of the ritual. Most cigars have a closed or capped end which needs to be removed before smoking, this ensures that there is sufficient airflow for the smoke to pass through the cigar.

To ensure a good quality smoke you should choose your cigar cutter carefully as certain cigar shapes suit certain cutters and different cutters allow for different draws. Each cutter has its own technique which, if done properly, will ensure the cleanest cut possible. Every cigar smoker has his or her preferences, so it's important to read up so you can make the most of your cigar!

Due to their practical size, guillotine cutters are the most common in the cigar world. Most guillotine cutters fit into a trouser or shirt pocket and are usually not expensive to purchase. Guillotines come in two varieties, both of which produce straight cuts. The first and cheapest option is the single blade cutter, however, most enthusiasts prefer the double blade as it produces a cleaner cut.

Using a cigar punch is very easy. There should be a faint line around the end of your cigar, where the cap ends and the cigar begins. Open the guillotine and place the cigar into the cutter up to, but not beyond, the faint line. Cutting further than this line may cause your cigar to fall apart. Once you have decided on the depth of cut, apply strong, swift pressure to the guillotine to ensure a clean, accurate surface. Tap the newly cut end to remove any loose tobacco.

How to cut cigars with a cigar cutter
For those who prefer wider cigars or irregularly shaped cigars such as torpedoes or pyramids, a cigar cutter is a more suitable option. Guillotine cutters have a limited ring gauge and can only accommodate one shape, whereas cigar cutters are much more adjustable and can therefore make more dexterous cuts. It is worth noting that cigar cutters work best when they are cleaned and sharpened regularly; the sharper the cutter, the cleaner the cut.

To use cigar scissors, slightly moisten the cap of the cigar with your mouth and again find the faint line where you pull the cap off and do not go beyond that. Use the scissors to draw a line around the cigar at the depth you want. Once you have set the position, press the scissors onto the cigar and apply quick, direct pressure. Stray pieces can then be trimmed.

V-Cutters
V-Cut cigar cutter, also known as notch cutters or wedge cutters, look similar to guillotines, but the difference lies in the type of cut. Whereas a guillotine cuts directly through the cigar, a V-cutter cuts a narrow wedge from the cap. A well-made V-cutter can pierce relatively far into the cigar's mouthpiece, thus promoting greater circulation. However, be aware that poor quality V-cutters often fail to cut the cigar sufficiently, resulting in an uneven burn that can ruin even the highest quality cigars.

Mastering a cigar cutter is a little more difficult than other cutters, so if time is of the essence, it may be safer to use a guillotine. For those with the time and patience, the rewards of V-cut cigars are very satisfying as many claim that this method reduces bitterness. To cut with the V-cut, hold the cigar in one hand and the cutter in the other, pulling the end of the cutter away from the cigar. Place the cigar inside, align the blade with your preferred depth and squeeze the cutter shut in one quick motion. This should create a notch in the cap of your cigar.

How to use a cigar punch cutter
For cigar lovers who prefer a narrow draw, a punch cutter is a good choice. There are several different sizes of punch cutters available for cutting small round holes in the cap. This method of opening cigars is not as invasive as other methods and therefore means that there is less chance of damaging the structure of the cigar. In addition, the smaller holes ensure that fewer pieces of smoke enter your mouth. The punch cutter has some limitations. The smaller opening restricts air flow and therefore the cigar may go out more often. In addition to this, punch cutters can only be used for round cap cigars with a ring gauge size over 40.

Most punch cutters come with a cap. To use the device, remove the cap and press the tube cutter onto the cap of the cigar, twisting as you go. The result should be a small cylindrical hole in the cap which can be widened by repeating the twisting action in other areas. To remove the cap from the cutter, simply press the back.

The V-Cut cigar cutter is a 3 in 1 straight cut V-shaped cutter, this cigar cutter has a spring loaded release design that makes it easy to operate the cigar cutter with one hand. The cigar cutter is sleek and durable with a luxurious look, excellent craftsmanship and sturdy construction. One of the best tools for cutting cigars!
